Today is International Women's day. As a woman, it is a significant day where I reflect on myself and see if I could be achieving more. I understand there are gender inequality in our society and I have always tried to make an effort to go against gender stereotypes. Originally, before I decided to audition at the Con, I did want to do forensic science and if not join the police force or services. As a female and a educator I hope to encourage young kids to think differently about society and to do what makes them happy rather than what society thinks they should do. But enough with that. In today's seminar we talked about different microphones and the uses of of them. I do have a little knowledge on some of these because I did help my music teacher in high school to help set up mics for orchestras. The two mics we focused on were condenser and dynamic microphones. What I learnt was dynamic microphones are better with capturing louder and stronger sounds whiles condenser microphones are better with more intimate sounds. We recorded a little sample podcast using the snowball mics then imported it into soundtrap. Using Sountrap we added music and beatboxing on top and were able to adjust the microphone sounds aswell. This is another use of Soundtrap that would be really good for students to create their own podacst or even recordings using loops and beats from Soundtrap!
To end this blog, celebrating International Women's Day, here is a song from Joan Jett, an icon in the rock industry!

WHOOOO First week BACK! Let me say how nice it is to be finally back at SCM. But honestly 3.5 month break has made me realised how bored I can get, and the first class of the week was MUED4006 - Technology in Music Education. We started the class with mediation, getting back into work mode and holiday relaxation time being put aside for the next 15 weeks. We started this week with the introduction of DAW's and Sequences. Tbh I don't know what on earth anything meant but it meant there was a lot to learn. Soundtrap was the theme of today's seminar which I have used in other classes, so I wasn't completely lost. What I really like about Soundtrap is that it is very intuitive. You don't have to be a genius in sound production or anything to really make music. After playing around with Soundtrap, I've noted why Soundtrap could be incorporated into Music Education: 1. IT'S FREE! - There is a paid subscription version of Soundtrap but with the free version of Soundtrap you are able to compose music. 2. It is intuitive - In soundtrap there are many templates which will allow students to have a guide if they don't know where to start. Also there is a looping mechanism, so If student were to make small fragments of a loop and loop that TA-DA! music. 3. Collaboration - Being able to collaborate in Music is key, and Soundtrap covers that aswell. Teachers can create a class and add students into it, that way teachers can monitor students progress and has save of their work. Also there is a feature where students can collaborate with their peers to make amazing things. This can then be used for assessment if wanted.
